Dancing boys

What better way to spend a very rainy Sunday than taking naps and dancing...

Congratulations, Dr. Barnett!!

Guido, Brad, Clark, Chris, Matt, Tim, & Steve
What a great feeling to be surrounded by good friends who were happy to celebrate Chris' success. We are so blessed.

Chris' viva day

"Viva Voce" is Latin for "live voice." And so, "viva" has come to mean the oral exam that Dphil (doctor of philosophy) students must endure at the end of their time here. A student submits her thesis, then 2 professors (one from Oxford, and one from somewhere else in the world) read it and prepare to grill the student on it. They meet and discuss the paper (in Chris' case, all 311 pages of it) and all of the students' work for however many years comes down to the fate of this one meeting. It is intense, to say the very least.

Chris is not one to "count his eggs before they hatch" so he was planning for the worst when he asked me to come pick him up after it was over. Little did he know, when he came out of his exam, he had all these friends waiting on him. (From left to right: Jonathan, Clark, Matt, Chris & kids, Matt, Brad, Louise) They were ready to take him to a pub to celebrate, but of course, he had to wait around for us to arrive.
We got there and decided we'd all head to the pub.

Guido joins the crowd.
Caleb was great entertainment for Tim and Matt.

Luke, the Moral Philosopher

I'm experimenting with the videos. This isn't a great one, but is part of a much longer lecture Luke was giving to Caleb on the importance of working together.

Playing hooky in Cambridge

We went to Cambridge today and it was a wonderful day out. Cambridge is about a 2 hour drive from Oxford and is a very different kind of city. You immediately recognize how green it is and how pedestrian friendly.

We ate a pub lunch, wandered the streets, moved the car to a new parking spot, then went to see King's College. Then we drove home......the last hoorah in the car, hopefully, as we're really hoping to sell it very soon.

Shotover Park

We had a great Saturday afternoon, out for a hike in Shotover Park.

The little boys watched in awe as the big boy swung around from a tree swing. I just sat back hoping any injury incurred would not mess him up for the upcoming viva. :)
