The last hoorah of Summer, 2011

We had a great time at the beach with Sweetie, Aunt JoAnna, Uncle Bert, and Cousins Reese and Owen. The kids all loved playing in the ocean and swimming in the pool. Paul was a real sport with his broken leg. He found his own way to have fun---he laid on his tummy and played in the water for a couple of hours each day. It was a great trip!

Paul's Broken Leg

Well, our first (and hopefully last!!!!!) broken bone. On Friday, our boisterous Paul had arms raised to the sky and was shouting something about dinosaurs as he jumped from the coffee table to the floor (as I said, "No jumping on furniture!"). He landed on both knees and managed to break his tibia (a "spiral fracture" just above his right ankle).

He chose a purple cast in honor of Buzz Lightyear and has been stopped on two different occasions from coloring his other leg with marker so it will match. He'll get a short cast this coming Friday and will then be in that one for 2-3 weeks more.

He has learned to scoot quite well. In fact, last night he woke up hurting around 1 AM. I ran upstairs, picked him up and brought him down to sleep in our bed with us. The second he realized I was putting him in our bed, he woke up enough to say, "I do not want to sleep with you guys!" So, I took him back up and put him back in his bed. Thirty minutes later, Chris grabbed my arm and said, "WHAT IS THAT NOISE?" Of course, I couldn't hear a thing until it was upon us. Paul had mysteriously dropped himself from his bed, shimmied down a flight of stairs (?!?!), and scraped across the kitchen floor (the sound that woke Chris up) to get in bed with us. When we asked, "What are you doing?" He said, "I changed my mind."

"Rascal," "character," "active," and other such words used to describe little boys do not fit for this child. The jury is still out on how to label him.....
